January Home Maintenance Checklist

Prevent Ice Dams – Check your attic insulation and ventilation to reduce the risk of ice dams forming on your roof. If ice dams appear, use a roof rake to remove excess snow or call a professional for safe removal.
Monitor Indoor Humidity & Condensation – Keep humidity levels in check (30–40%) to prevent condensation on windows, which can lead to mold and wood rot. Use a dehumidifier if necessary.
Inspect and Maintain Your Furnace – Change your furnace filter monthly and listen for any unusual noises. If you haven’t had a professional tune-up yet, consider scheduling one to keep it running efficiently.
Check for Frozen Pipes – Insulate exposed pipes in unheated areas like basements, garages, and crawl spaces. Keep cabinet doors open under sinks to allow warm air to circulate, and let faucets drip slightly during extreme cold spells.
Test Your Sump Pump – Even in winter, melting snow or unexpected thaws can lead to basement flooding. Test your sump pump by pouring a bucket of water into the pit to ensure it's working properly. The Huemmer Home Team
