Set Up Work Places For School Aged ChildrenA comfortable, attractive and well-organized work space will help encourage good homework habits. Having a dedicated project table or large desk surface to keep the necessary supplies at hand will reduce distractions.

Maintain Washer & Dryer
Dryer vents need to be regularly and more deeply than just a quick swipe of the lint. Washing-machine hoses can deteriorate and leak over time and cause costly damages to your home. Cleaning the dryer vents and washer hoses will help prolong your equipment's use time.

Clear The Gutters
Summers in Wisconsin bring some heavy rain and thunderstorms. Muck and debris can cause water to collect and overflow when clogged. Eliminate the possibility of water damage and get those gutters cleaned out.
Deep Clean Carpets
Warmer weather allows for windows to be open and a breeze through the home to help dry the wet carpet. Fresh clean carpets are always good for a clean smelling home.
Clean Bathroom Exhaust Fans
The bathroom fan helps remove moisture, humidity and odors. Shower steam encourages dust to accumulate on the vent and inside the fan. Removal of dust will ensure the fan works at its greatest capacity. 
Inspect Siding
Siding can buckle, bubble and slide. Plus be susceptible to mold and mildew, which can lead to problems. Make sure to inspect all your siding annually and complete the necessary repairs as needed.

July Home Maintenance Checklist

Scrub Deck & Railing
Prepare your outdoor space for a barbecue with friends. Mix some warm water and dish detergent to scrub the deck boards and railings plus the outdoor furniture. Make sure to look for popped nails or screws too.
Clean Your Sink Drain
What's that smell coming from the sink!?!? Wash the sink stopper and pour a half cup of baking soda down the drain with a cup of boiling water. Wait 10 mins and rinse clean.
Test Drinking Water
Drinking water should be test regularly for bacteria and nitrates. Self monitoring testing kits can be used or often the county health department will help. Call the Safe Drinking Hotline at 800-426-4791 for assistance. 
Inspect Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors
Get in a habit of testing these monthly. Make sure the batteries work and that the mechanism is working properly by pushing the test button.

Check Your Refrigerator
Clean the inside, outside and behind. Replace the water filter and inspect the ice maker. Also make sure you wash and repair the door gaskets to ensure highest efficiency. Apply a light coat of petroleum jelly to the top and front of the gasket to keep a tight seal.
Check And Repair Window Screens
Expect insects in the summer season.  Even a small hole or rip could be a welcome sign for bugs to enter your home. For small holes, repair tape works. If the damage is bad enough, you may have to replace the entire screen. Typically your local hardware store can handle that.
Give Your Home A Good Dusting
That dust and microscopic mites gathered during the winter months, can now be pushed through your home when the windows and doors are open. Give your home a good dusting. Wipe down furniture, baseboards, doors, window sills, cabinets, appliances, walls and ceiling fans.
